Living in Portugal - May 2024

Updated: Jun 19

A month of travel to new destinations, a visit from a cherished friend, finally getting our new boat on the water, and just enjoying life!

This month, we took two fantastic trips: a week in the northern Italian region of Piedmont and two weeks in Southern Africa.

The weather in the Algarve has quickly turned from spring to summer. A little mist of rain and cooler days early in the month were followed by hot summer-like beach weather for the majority of the month.

The gardens around us love the mix of weather. Practically every corner is filled with a beautiful array of bright flowers, fruit trees bearing a mix of new and ripe fruits, and a vegetable garden full of life and awaiting harvest.

Our close friend for many years, Anna Marie, stopped in for a few days before a conference in Lisbon. It was great to see her and catch up. We showed her a bit about our life in Portugal, visiting Lagos, Carvoeiro, Silves, Portimao, and Luz.

Storks around the area have nests filled with the newest additions to their family. Each nest has mom and dad busy with gathering food, feeding, and maintaining the nests.

Our new boat finally arrived at the Marina in Portimao. Thanks to poor follow-through from our dealer and a slow registration process, we finally have it in the water and at its home port over two months after its arrival in Portugal. Unfortunately, we received it one day before leaving for a two-week trip to Africa, so it gets to sit and enjoy its new berth in Portimao until we return. We got to take a quick inaugural cruise just off the Portimao coast to test operations. We can't wait to return and get out on the water.

We named the boat Mary Cecilia to honor the names that run through the family's matriarchs: Mary Cecilia (my wife), my grandmother Mary on my dad's side, and my grandmother Christy Cecilia on my Mom's side.

Barney and Sonny are living the dream in the Algarve. They love to play and hide in tissue paper. Sonny loves to stretch out in his bed with the window open listening to the birds outside

As always we hope everyone is doing well, healthy, happy, and thriving. We miss you and love you all...A lot!
