A bit more rain early in the month but sunny weather prevailed. We missed most of the month in the Algarve due to travel but it's always nice to return to the sun and beaches.

This months post of "Living in Portugal" is a bit light in content since we were away most of the month, but we did manage to squeeze in a few things between travels.

At home, the gardens continue their seasonal transitions, not much to report on this months harvests but the growth adds promise for a bountiful summer.

Mary's Chili's are full of fruit

...and the flowers continue to add beauty. We had a strong heat wave while we were gone that caused a few to wilt in the heat but the hearty ones prevailed. The path to our house is full of blooms and the lavender and Gladiolas add great color.

Teresa has been busy in her garden planting tomato's, beans, squash, and the fig and pomegranate trees have filled back in with leaves and small fruits

Last month I started the process of making Nespolino from the fruit of the four large Nêspera (Loquat) trees on the property. Both the liqueurs are progressing nicely, the one from the fruit has a sweet flavor and the one from the seeds has the flavor of Amaretto. Straining the liquid from the seeds and fruit now, adding a bit of sugar and some water to each, and a vanilla bean pod to the Nespolino. They will sit for another week or so before they are complete. So far so good.

A gathering of friends to bid Farewell to our Mike and Deb who are moving back to the states.

A few of us came out to support and encourage Mark who chose to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

Big waves and surfing along Praia da Rocha

Our bi-monthly gathering of the Whiskey appreciation society to learn more about Scotch. This session was focused on Islay.

In May, we're heading to northern Portugal for a few days in the Dao region. Then, it's off to Greece, where we'll meet Kenia and Marlene for a few days in Athens and a sailing cruise through the Greek Islands.

Check out the Travel & Experiences sections for more on these trips.

Sonny and Barney had a chance to catch up on their sleep this month while we were traveling. They are fine with visits from the pet sitter, mostly for the food but do demand a lot of attention from us when we return.

As always, we hope everyone is doing well, healthy, happy, and thriving. We miss you and love you all...A lot!
