On a road trip through the Alentejo region we discovered this Michelin star restaurant, part of the Esporao winery. The restaurant is only open for lunch which makes sense as it is a journey through small roads and vineyards to get there. Upon arrival, the grounds are beautiful, surrounded by vast vineyards and a private lake with views out to the horizon.
The restaurant itself is casual and comfortable with plenty of natural light and windows taking full advantage of the great views.
Lunch was fantastic, we opted for the Five Moments option (there is also a Seven Moments option) and were glad we did. True to Portuguese culture the portions were larger than you would expect from a restaurant of this quality but not too overwhelming. Ingredients and preparation were top tier with most items on the plate coming from the estate or surrounding producers. Highlights were the House made Breads and the compound butters served with them, The Monk fish, Alentejo Pork, and the dessert course. If you have room opt for the optional cheese course as the selections looked fantastic
Overall a fantastic lunch, in a comfortable environment. service was attentive, food outstanding, and wines paired perfectly. we will return when next in the area
